El Planerón is home to a landscape unparalleled in Europe, with a semi-desert steppe environment and unique flora and fauna. Through this route, with little technical difficulty, we encourage you to discover this unique environment with your gravel bike or MTB.
Leaving from Belchite heading north, the route arrives at Codo between olive groves. After crossing the town, it heads towards La Lomaza and La Petriza, mountain ranges that will accompany us in the background throughout the route. The route crosses the entire Planerón plain, covered with crop fields, and passes by a pond and an ornithological observatory. After crossing Codo again, the route returns to Belchite passing under the Saso and its windmills.
It is essential to carry water. The only fountain on the route is in Codo.
Avoid days of cierzo (strong wind from the west) and where you might experience too much sun exposure (e.g. maximum summer sun)
Avoid making loud noises and disturbing wildlife; the route crosses a protected area for birds.
